ReverseMortgageKingston.ca lists the Kingston property tax dates for the rest of 2026 and early 2027, plus the other fall dates that matter if you are 55 or older. Each date below comes from the City of Kingston, the Bank of Canada or a government page, linked beside it.
October 14 to 26: the municipal election
Kingston votes for its mayor, district councillors and school board trustees on Monday, October 26, 2026. Voting hours that day are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (City of Kingston tax bill insert).
Advance voting is on October 16 and 17. Internet voting is open from October 14 to October 26. Your Voter Information Letter says where and when to vote and gives your voter ID number for voting online. Bring it, along with a piece of ID.
October 28 and December 9: Bank of Canada decisions
The final two Bank of Canada rate announcements of 2026 fall on October 28 and December 9 (Bank of Canada schedule). It held its policy rate at 2.25% on September 2 (Bank of Canada). On October 28, it raised the rate to 2.5% (Bank of Canada).
Reverse mortgage rates are set by each lender, not directly by the Bank of Canada. When checked on October 31, 2026, the lenders were advertising five-year fixed rates between 6.23% and 6.49%.
December 1: the cutoff for the City’s ARU incentive
The City’s incentive for additional residential units, such as a basement suite or garden suite, has a firm date. New applicants join a waitlist, and a project needs its building permit by December 1, 2026 to be looked at for funding (City of Kingston).
The money comes as a forgivable loan, capped at $40,000 for a separate building and $30,000 for a suite inside the house. Funding is not guaranteed. The page on additional residential units in Kingston explains how home equity can pay for a unit with or without the City’s money.
The 10th of each month: Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit
Your 2025 tax return sets the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit paid from July 2026 to June 2027. It is paid on the 10th of each month, so the next payments are November 10 and December 10 (Canada Revenue Agency).
If your yearly amount is $500 or less, it comes as one payment, usually in July. The 2026 maximum for seniors is $1,488. Ontario’s Senior Homeowners’ Property Tax Grant, up to $500 a year, is claimed with your income tax return (Government of Ontario).
Early 2027: the interim tax bill
The City mails the interim property tax bill early in the year. The 2026 interim bill was due February 27, 2026, and was based on 50% of the 2025 taxes (City of Kingston interim insert). The 2027 due date will be printed on the bill.
The 2026 final bill was due June 30, 2026, in one instalment (City of Kingston). The City’s pre-authorized payment plan spreads taxes over 10 monthly instalments. Late payments collect interest of 1.25% a month (By-law 2026-54).
April 30, 2027: tax relief, if the 2026 rules carry over
For 2026, the City’s tax deferral and its $100 senior’s property tax credit both had an April 30 deadline (City of Kingston). If the 2027 programs keep the 2026 rules, you can apply for 2027 until April 30, 2027.
The deferral is for owners 65 or older on the Guaranteed Income Supplement, or owners on ODSP, and the $100 credit is for owners 65 or older on the Guaranteed Income Supplement, and you apply every year. The deferral covers up to 50% of the year’s tax, to a maximum of $1,000, and you can use only one of the programs. The guide to Kingston property tax for seniors compares them.
Already in force: carbon monoxide alarm rules
New Ontario Fire Code requirements for carbon monoxide alarms in homes took effect on January 1, 2026 (Government of Ontario). The City reminded owners about them on the 2026 interim tax bill. Before the heating season is a good time to check that alarms work.
Looking further ahead
Some families use the fall to plan for care. Ontario’s long-term care co-payment rates changed on July 1, 2026, and the long-term care guide for Kingston lists them. Others want to know what their home is worth now. Kingston home prices and the September 2026 Kingston real estate market report cover the latest figures.
With a reverse mortgage, the property tax bill stays yours, along with home insurance and upkeep. There are no required monthly mortgage payments. To test your own numbers, the Kingston reverse mortgage calculator uses your age and home value.
